Judo is considered both a martial art and martial sport. It remains one of the more popular martial arts around the world largely due to its Olympic status which began in the 1964 Tokyo Games.
Judo's founder was a man by the name of Jigoro Kano and it is derived from from the art of Jujutsu. Judo's main emphasis is throws and takedowns, however, judokas eventually learn forms of submissions such as chokes and joint locks.
