Muay Thai (Thai Boxing)

Muay Thai is regarded as one of the fiercest martial arts and is famous for its punishing elbow and knee strikes and its low-line shin kicks. Muay Thai evolved by necessity as the Thai's were under continual aggression by its Asian neighbors. Along with the Thai weapons art of Krabi Krabong, Muay Thai was taught to Thai warriors and this was done so in a highly organized fashion. The Thai's combined the efforts and ideas of its best soldiers and recorded these techniques for all to learn. This was very much in contrast to the old practice of keeping techniques secret among a master and student. This avoided the inevitable loss of knowledge and served to perpetuate the art.

Muay Thai stylists use long range kicks and strikes, however, do penetrate the trapping range where the elbows and knees serve to inflict punishment to an opponent. Muay Thai, for the most part, has its best fighters located in Thailand. The best trainers elect to stay there, in part, since gambling on these matches is lucrative (and legal) within Thailand's borders.
